Clifton Oliver Shoultz II, 71, of Indianapolis, died on April 13, 2025 after succumbing to a long-term illness. Cliff had retired from RCI in Indianapolis. In his earlier days, he was a teacher and basketball coach at Southwestern Elementary School in Shelby County. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and creativity. One of his hobbies was designing and making beautiful greeting cards, as well as, bookmarks that he shared with a nearby elementary school. Cliff was also a devoted animal lover. He had a membership to the Indianapolis Zoo where he visited as often as possible, and where some animals would recognize his voice. Those who knew him well will remember his love for his cat, Dixon. Born to Clifton Oliver Shoultz, and Bonnie Shoultz in Beech Grove, IN, on November 3, 1953, he grew up in Shelby County, and attended the Triton Central Schools. He graduated cum laude from Franklin College and then earned a Masters degree from IUPUI. Cliff is survived by his sister, Debarah Shoultz; brother, Richard (Nikki) Shoultz; and two nieces, Emma and Ellie Shoultz. He is preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Riley Shoultz. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Those wishing may make memorial donations through the funeral home to the Indianapolis Zoo.

  1. I’ll always cherish my time spent with Cliff, we always made time together to celebrate our birthdays. Going to miss his funny stories and his contagious laugh. I’ve been his friend for close to 30 years, and every minute was truly a blessing. He truly will be missed.

  2. I was blessed to know Cliff for over 25 years we worked together, and FB friends for all the years to follow. His love of the zoo and Dixon were undeniable and he shared his life with many. Such a kind soul, always caring for others. He traditionally brought me carrott cake on my birthdays. I will miss his caring nature and warm smile.

  3. Cliff and I were friends for over 30 years. I am thankful that he was a part of my life for so long. I will always remember his laughter, stories and love of life (and his passion for Dixon and the zoo animals). Rest now, Cliff, enjoy your next chapters. Much love.

  5. I was fortunate enough to work with Cliff at RCI. He was such a genuine, kind, gentle person who had a way of making you feel good after talking to him. Despite all of his ailments and obstacles, he kept such a great attitude . He made this world a better place and will be missed.
