Clyde Raymond Martin

Clyde R. Martin, 86, of Columbus, died at 10:54 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
Clyde was born February 3, 1935 in Columbus, the son of Edward Raymond and Elsie Brummett Martin Seaman. He married Shelby Jean Stoneking on May 12, 1955. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1998.
Clyde was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour, Indiana. He worked at Cummins Engine Company for 34 years before retiring in 1987. He was in the Army National Guard. Clyde was a member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #547 and former President of the Bartholomew County Shrine Club. Clyde’s family said that his specialty was talking to people and frying Funnel cakes at the Bartholomew County Fair. Clyde was very proud to have been a member of the Road Runner Club in which he made over 250 trips taking children to the Shriners Children’s Hospitals in various locations. A very likable guy, Clyde will be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dan DeFriece officiating. Calling will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a Masonic Service being held at 7:30, Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana or Shriners Hospitals.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Martin Culp (Rick Kirby) of Hope, Indiana grandchildren, Nathan (Jill) Culp of Fort Wayne, Indiana; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Grace and Sawyer Culp all of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby, his second wife, Patricia, his sons, Larry Dean Martin and Dwight Raymond Martin, a daughter, Catherine Marie Martin, sisters, Betty Nichols, Jean Brookover, and Gretchen Bender.
Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.

I will miss Clyde greatly.
My husband and I went to the same church as Clyde, Calvary Baptist in Seymour. He was a greeter and never failed to say he was praying for us when he greeted us on Sunday mornings. He was one of the good guys and we will miss him.

I’ve only known Brother Clyde for a few years, but in that time, he provided me an inspiration to learn and perform ritual as well as he did… and I’m proud to say that the compliment he paid me when I got to perform said ritual is one that I will always cherish and push myself to learn more and perfect it.

Had the privilege of working with Clyde when we were both crossing guards. I didn’t realize Pat had passed away also. I will miss his smile. He was always so kind to me. Proud to call him friend ❤️ God bless you Clyde.
Loved talking to Clyde. Many years ago a friends child was burned badly and they were having trouble getting him into Shriners burn unit. Called Clyde, he took the cart by the reins and had him admitted within hours. An all around good guy.
