Cornelia Schuette Cunningham passed away September 14, 2014, in Knoxville, TN where she had been living since 2004. Mrs. Cunningham was born April 12, 1917 to Chris and Emily May Shireman Schuette and lived on the same farm where she was born until 2000. She attended Central Normal College in at Danville, Colorado College at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Indiana State, and IUPUC, and received Bachelors and Masters degrees from Indiana University. A life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Sewing Circle and the Couples Club. Mrs. Cunningham belonged to the retired teachers associations, the IU Alumni Association, the IU Varsity Club and the Bartholomew County Historical Society. She was especially proud of being a charter member of Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary society for women educators and a loyal supporter of IU football. Mrs. Cunningham taught in Bartholomew County schools for 44 years, teaching all grades from first through junior high school at several different schools including Jefferson and Kent Elementary Schools. During World War II, she taught in the 1560th Special Training Unit at Camp Atterbury and served as a member of the Red Cross Motor Corps, often taking Gray ladies and the Canteen Ladies to Wakeman Hospital at Camp Atterbury. She also helped at the Lutheran Service Center. Mrs. Cunningham was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm; and brother, Louis Schuette. She is survived by her son, Chris Cunningham (Jenny) of Columbus; granddaughters Nikki and Heidi of Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren; a daughter, Susan McConnell (Bill) of Knoxville; and granddaughters, Emily and Sarah McConnell and Crystal Escobar. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-great nieces and nephews.

Susan, Condolences on the loss of your mother. Whenever I am in Columbus and drive on 46, I always wonder who is living in the Cunningham house on the hill. I hope your memories of your mother will bring you comfort.
