"Whitey" Burgan, 73, of West 50 South, died at 5:23 a.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015, at his home. Dale was born May 11, 1942 in Columbus, the son of James Edward and Martha Louise (Elsea) Burgan. He married Karen S. Brown September 1, 1968. Dale served his country in the air force in Vietnam flying just short of 100 missions in the C119 Gun Ships, and received the distinguished flying cross and three oak leaf clusters. Following his active service in the air force, he was able to travel the world in the air force reserves. Dale retired as an electrician from Cummins Engine Company in 2002 after 38 years of service. After retirement, Dale and Karen enjoyed winters at their home in Okeechobee, Florida. Dale was a member and Past Master of Camon Masonic Lodge # 343 F & AM and shared dual membership with the Jackson Masonic Lodge # 146 F & AM in Seymour. Survivors include his wife, Karen; son, Bradley Ryan Burgan of Columbus; brothers, Gary (Sherry) Burgan of Indianapolis and James E. (Terry) Burgan of Columbus; and sisters, LuAnne (William) Steinker of Columbus and Gail (Mike) Gunderson of Acton, California. He is also survived by the light of his life during his illness, his grandson, Braden Bishop; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
