Dana Lee Whitaker

Dana Lee Whitaker, 59, of Columbus, died at 10:14 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Dana was born August 2, 1963, in Danville, Indiana the daughter of Richard Lee and Paula Ann Springer Hanson. She married Anthony Whitaker on August 14, 2015. He preceded her in death on September 4, 2016. Dana graduated in 1981 from Columbus East. She worked in various agencies as a CNA. Dana was a survivor and fighter. She loved to bake and was known for her signature cheesecake and for not sharing her Sushi. She loved her cats but dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She left her loving family in peace. A wonderful lady to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed. The funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, with Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating at Jewell -Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling will be from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society. Survivors include her mother, Paula Hanson; her children, Richard (Mandy) Vinson, of Indianapolis, Brandon (Rachel Hilton) Segroves, of Moore, OK., and Kayleigh (Ty) Burris, of Columbus; sisters, Diana Lyn Hanson, of Columbus, and Dina Lee Ann (Brian) Martin, of Columbus, grandchildren, Jadyn Dakota Segroves, Evie Gwen Segroves, Caleb Matthew Hilton, Elijah David Hilton, Adelaide Mae Vinson, Rowan Reed Vinson, Benton Burris, Cash David Vinson, and a granddaughter coming in September; and a great-granddaughter, London-Rea Harbeson. She was proceeded in death by her father, husband, and brother, William Allen Hanson. Arrangements entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
