Danny Wayne Helton

Danny Wayne Helton, 74, of Columbus, died at 2:00 p.m. on September 23rd, 2023, at his home. He was born on November 27th, 1948 in Benham, Kentucky the son of Shelby Helton and Monette (Boggs) Helton. He married Joyce Duncan on June 13th, 2000. Danny enjoyed many pastimes, including spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, and mushroom hunting. He was passionate about his outdoor collectibles and pottery and he enjoyed reading. Danny had an incredible sense of humor with a big and caring heart. He never met a stranger. Danny would give the shirt off his back and the last dollar from his wallet if anyone ever needed it. Danny served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; and the Marksmanship badge. He loved God and his country, but most of all loved his family and wife. He will be greatly missed. The funeral will be at 12:00 P.M. Monday, October 2nd, 2023 at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Hillard officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Calling will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Helton; sons, Nathan Helton and Adam Helton of Columbus; grandchildren, Kennedi Helton, Abby Helton, and 8 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
