David E. Hoover, Sr., 81, Columbus, passed away February 21, 2026, at Southpointe Health Care in Indianapolis. David was born May 17, 1944, in Walesboro, Indiana, to the late Henry and Marie (McKinney) Hoover. He married Kathryn Sue (Mathis) Hoover on February 19, 1966, and she survives.
David attended Brown County High School and worked as a welder at Dorel for 25 years. An avid outdoorsman, David was always happy in the woods – coon hunting, mushroom hunting, and enjoying nature. He was a dog lover and always enjoyed the companionship of his canine friends. A faith-filled man, David attended Green Valley Apostolic Church and the Pentecostals of Nashville. He loved people and never met a stranger. Above all, David was a loyal and loving family man who was exceptionally proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Delilah Ogle, Mary Sharp, and Leroy Hoover.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Sue; children, Rodney (Lisa) Hoover, Angela Hurley, David Hoover Jr., Stacie Hoover, and Brian Hoover; siblings, Becky (Pete) Graham, Martha Ness, Leah Jackson, and Jean (George) Frazee; grandchildren, Carrie, Zack, Daniel, Dustin, Derik, Tyler, and Jessica; 5 great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather to remember, honor, and celebrate the life of David E. Hoover from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the
Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral service will begin at 12 Noon, Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the funeral home, with Pastor Matthew Wright officiating.
