David Keith Forney, 78, of North Hughes Street, died Tuesday, July 17 2012, at his home. David was the best backhoe operator in the county. He worked for Raft to Rafters and dug over 800 swimming pools. He was a lifetime member of the F.O.P. and was a charitable person who always donated to various organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201. Born in Marion County, Ind., March 11, 1934, David was the son of Rupert Ormsby Forney and Lula P. Lawhorn Forney. He married Darlene Joyce Carter May 28, 1954. She preceded him in death Feb. 9, 2007. Survivors include sons, David Lee (Heidi) Forney of Hartsville, IN, Dennis Keith (Melinda) Forney of Elizabethtown, IN, and Phillip Jason (Sarah)Forney of Columbus, IN; a daughter, Lisa Kay (Kent) Neeb of Shelbyville, IN; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Slevin of Franklin, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, George Forney; and sisters, Sonia Novak and Helen Forney. SERVICES: 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 21, 2012 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home OFFICIATING CLERGY: Mr. Chad Ranson FINAL RESTING PLACE: Garland Brook Cemetery with Military Rites VISITATION: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Saturday MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201.

  1. We are so very sorry for your loss. Dave was a good friend to all. He was a fine person with a laugh that we will always remember. Had a lot of good times working with him and he WAS the best backhoe operator in the country!

  2. im deeply sorry for your loss. everyone that knew him is at a loss now . what a wonderful man he was . always made me feel loved and welcome at the reunions . and of course ,,, alwayss made me laugh , just hearing him laugh . he was a great brother father husband and friend . the best man i ever knew ! i Love you Dave and will never forget you !!
