August 22, 1959 ~ January 18, 2025

David Scott Breeden, known as Dave to his friends and family, passed from this life on January 18, 2025, at the age of 65. Dave was born in Columbus, Indiana on August 22, 1959, to Kenneth and Thelma Breeden. Dave’s work life began at a young age when he delivered oil for the family business, Breeden Oil Company. In the 80’s Dave went on to become a mechanic at the BCSC Transportation Center. During his time there, he was instrumental in creating the BCSC computer bus. He also drove a truck for Columbus Transport and Eagle Express during his prime years. In Dave’s young adult life he spent many hours “turning wrenches” in the garage to the tune of 70’s rock. He enjoyed playing games. His favorite pastimes were playing the game of Pool and Chess. He’d often have friends dropping by to challenge him for a game. In more recent years, Dave found a love for football. He followed the Colts and would often watch games on the big screens at the local bar and grills. Dave was known for his sense of humor, teasing jokes, and storytelling. If his 1991 red Chevy S-10 was seen outside his favorite spots, you’d know that he was inside filling the space with laughter. Dave is survived by his four children and six granddaughters, all of Columbus. His children are Tabitha (Brandon) Halstead, Tyson (Amber) Breeden, Carissa Phillips, and Brittany (Delano) Cruz. Granddaughters are Anna Halstead, Allison Halstead, Kaylin Breeden, Reagan Breeden, Amyla Phillips, and Evelynn Cruz. He is also survived by all siblings; Kerry (Sharon) Breeden of Dunnellon, Florida, Nancy (Gary) VanCleve of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and Mari Millikan of Westport. Dave was preceded in death by his parents. Services for David will be held at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24th, 2025. Calling hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Following the services on Friday, January 24th, 2025, a private burial will take place at the Garland Brook Cemetery.

  1. Shared a table, a drink and a meal with my friend Dave so many times. At Eagles and Yummy bowl especially. Great memories, RIP my friend.

  2. I’ll miss Dave’s sense of humor. I’ll always appreciate that one time he let me beat him at chess down at the CB. Rest easy Dave. You will be missed.
