SERVICES: FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis officiating. VISITATION: Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 9 until 9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. MEMORIAL DONATIONS: Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Dean Perry, 76, of 600 W, died at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born in Columbus, March 16, 1936, the son of the late Merritt A. and Blanche Thomas Perry. He married Pat Spanik on December 7, 1962, and she survives. He previously was a school teacher at Booth-Setser Elementary School, was the Reading Specialist for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, and was concurrently the principal at Jefferson and Garfield Elementary Schools, McDowell Elementary, and Mt. Healthy Elementary, retiring in 1991 from Fodrea Elementary after 34 years of service. He also owned and operated DP Excavation for 40 years, and an antique business named "The Salvage Shop" in Edinburgh from 1984 to 1995. He enjoyed going to auctions, and loved the kids he served in the education field. In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by sons, Shawn Michael (Trudy) Perry of Copperas Cove, Texas, Jay (Nina Curry) Perry of Columbus, and Tad Perry of Columbus; a daughter, Shannon (Jeff Gabbard) Spears of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Michelle, Joshua, Austin, Natalie, Shelby, Joey, and Matthew Perry, Emelia Spears, and Josh and Brittany Gabbard. Dean was preceded in death by his father in 1991, his mother in 2004; a grandson, Steven Arthur Perry on Feb. 16, 2012; and a brother, Wayne Perry on Sept. 11, 2011.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Dean a few times he was such a wonderful person. Saying prayers for you and your family we are so sorry for your loss.
I met Dean while I was building my house over on 400 west. we became friends from then on. Piece my friend

I was sorry to read of Mr. Perry’s death. He gave me a job at Fodrea which I held until my retirement. I was always grateful to him for that. Mr. Perry was a good man who loved his family and the chlldren he taught. My sympathy is with you.
To. My Dad: I hated to see you go and it was tougher to let you go. I know you’re a better place with no pain no suffering. I love you more than word scan say I will miss you always. I’ll miss our special hugs and you telling me ” I love you”. God speed Dad.!!! Love you, Shannon
I remember many great times w/Dean an Pat down at the ‘farm’ as my dad used to say. always had a kind word and an up-beat attitude. I’m going to miss him terribly, as I know many will. Always in my heart/prayers. Love you all and I’m sorry I couldn’t be there for the service. Hope to talk/see you soon. ~ Ellen
