Deborah Dawn Smith, 53, of Columbus, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Deborah was born August 15, 1970, in Columbus to Darrell and Linda Crouch Smith. Deborah graduated from Columbus East High School and then went on to receive her Associate's degree. She was employed at the hospital for many years where she did medical billing and coding.
Debbie had a passion for life and loved being adventurous. She loved deep-sea diving and was working towards getting her certification to be a diver. She also enjoyed amusement parks, more so for the roller coaster rides that she loved so much that she ended up breaking her ribs, going on them numerous times. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Key West, Florida, animals, and volunteering at the Mill Race Center. Debbie loved her family dearly but loved the joy of being a “Mammie” to her two grandboys.
Debbie is survived by her parents; her life partner, Doug Weber of Columbus; daughter, Taylor Anderson and partner Josh Burnett of Columbus, her son; Brandon Smith and partner Russell Childress of Lexington, NC; her grandchildren; Evan Anderson, Luke Anderson, and her brother Eric Smith and his former wife Amy Puc, along with her nephews Kevin Willoughby and Mason Smith. Deborah is also survived by other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Smith; her aunt; Joyce Elsner, and her beloved fur baby “Kabar”.
Calling Hours and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling Hours will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Deborah’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Derek Carpenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
