Dorothy F. Gates October 07, 1915 - October 29, 2007 Dorothy F. Gates, 92, formerly of Coovert Street and Bloomington, died at 11:27 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Mrs. Gates was a beautician in the Columbus area for more than 40 years. She was a member of First Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Ladies Moose Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, dancing and being around her family, especially her grandchildren. Born in Bloomington Oct. 7, 1915, Mrs. Gates was the daughter of William Otto and Libbie Ethel Fullerton Funkhouser. She married Glenn M. Gates in 1943. Survivors include sons, Marvin Sonny Gates and his wife, Mary Traynor-Gates of Taylorsville; a brother, Otho Funkhouser of Bloomington; sisters, Margaret Stansifer and Hazel Fidler, both of Bloomington; grandchildren, Shannon J. Warner of Phoenix, Ariz., Alan L. Quick of Columbus, Carey J. Gates of Columbus and Marci A. Gates of Nashville; 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn M. Gates, who died in 1993; a granddaughter, Melinda Dawn; a grandson, Ronald M.; and a brother, Marvin Funkhouser. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday. FUNERAL: The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Mathis officiating. BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
