Dorothy Helen Gaw June 20, 1921 - September 05, 2010 Dorothy Rapp Gaw, 89, of Hill View Drive, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 20, 1921, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Daniel and Nelda Burke Rapp. Dorothy graduated from Morton High School, Morton, Ill., in 1940. In 1942 she graduated in the top of her class from business college in South Bend. She married Clyde A. Gaw, June 6, 1971. He survives. Dorothy worked at South Bend Lathe Company, Simon Brothers Food Co. in LaPorte, Allis Chalmers Wheel-A-Brater Co. in Mishawaka, and Saps Bakery in Columbus for four years before she retired. Dorothy won many grand champion and blue ribbons at local fairs for her needlework. All her needlework was done with the loss of vision out of one eye and only 60 percent vision in her other eye. One of her greatest loves was the Barbershop Harmony Group. She won the Groupie Award for attending every show that they performed for the last 27 years and always wanted 10 more songs to be sung. She was an avid IU fan. She had many friends and will be missed by many. We all loved her, and the Lord will watch over his children. She is survived by a son, Richard (Sharon) Russ of Mill Creek; a daughter, Patti-Jo (Bobby) Watson of Greenwood; six grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St., with the Rev. Lane Loman officiating. VISITATION: 11 a.m. until service time. Cremation will follow services. Donations Information MEMORIALS: Preferred memorials are through the Dorothy Helen Gaw Memorial Fund established through the funeral home.
