Dorothy L. Townsend

Townsend, 91, of Taylor Road, died at 4:05 a.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Four Seasons Retirement Center. Dorothy was born April 14, 1923 in York, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Leon and Myrtle Brown Leeper. She graduated from York Senior High and received her bachelor's degree from Dickinson College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Prior to marriage, she worked in the bookkeeping department of York Corporation. She married Don G. Townsend on June 19, 1955, and moved to Anderson, Indiana, where they lived until 1994 when they retired to Green Valley, Arizona. They moved to Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus, Indiana, in 2006. Dorothy's hobbies included needlework, reading and traveling in the United States and Canada. She was a member of Green Valley Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, Douglas (Cheryl Wenner) Townsend of Sidney, Ohio; daughter, Diana T. (Chris) Manners of Columbus; and sister, Edith L. Smith of York, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
