FUNERAL: 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013, at Elizabethtown Christian Church, 202 Mill St., Elizabethtown, with the Rev. Mike Gillespie, the Rev. Doran Chambers and the Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. CALLING: 1:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. BURIAL: Daugherty Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard Edwin A. "Ed" Riley, 80, of West County Road 300S, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at his home. Ed graduated from East Columbus State Street Elementary School, then from Columbus High School in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a second class petty officer on the USS Randall for four years during the Korean War. While in the Navy, Ed sang with the naval "Blue Jackets Choir." Ed attended Milligan College and Franklin College. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 35 years of service and was a member of East Columbus Christian Church. Along, with his parents, Ed was one of the founders of Hilltop Christian Camp. He was an expert and avid woodworker. He also received the title of Master Gardener from Purdue University. Ed was a member of the "Skunk Ridge Gang" at Ceraland Park. He had been a paper boy for the Evening Republican newspaper.. Memorial contributions may be made to Just Friends Adult Day Care or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Born in Columbus Jan. 21, 1933, Ed was the son of Eldo A. Riley and Pansy T. Tatem Riley. He married Dorothy A. Mosley June 24, 1962. Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael (Cassie) Riley, Valparaiso, IN; daughters, Elizabeth (Kevin) Murphy of Indianapolis, IN, and Christine (Dean) Wright of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Shelby (Nick) Geidner, Allison Murphy, Alex Riley, Kelsey Riley, Samantha Riley, Kelden Wright, Annalace Wright, Ehren Wright, and Adelaide Wright; and a great-grandchild, Henry Geidner.
