Elaine M. Snyder September 30, 1924 - October 28, 2008 Elaine M. Snyder, 84 of Seymour, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour, Indiana. She was born September 30, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late John and Elsie Spruth Steiner, the seventh of eight children. Five of their children were born in Brazil, South America, because of Mr. Steiners calling as a missionary and then as a Lutheran school teacher in Chicago for fifty years. Elaine married Paul U. Duke Snyder September 20, 1947, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Chicago. He preceded her in death in January of 1977. She was also preceded in death by all seven siblings through the years: Cordula E. Steiner (Clarence) Olson, Leonora A. Steiner (Walter) Koch, Luther P.J. Steiner, Carl G.M. Steiner, Dorothea A. Steiner (Harold) Stuebe, Alvin R.W. Steiner and Naomi L. Steiner. Mrs. Snyder was mainly a homemaker but also worked at Arvin Industries, retiring in 1969. In later years, she volunteered for the Red Cross in Columbus, Indiana, in the blood donor division, and as a literacy volunteer at McDowell Education Center. Her hobbies included gardening, decorating cakes and sewing. She was formerly a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Columbus, Indiana, and most recently was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour, Indiana. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Nanny Snyder of Franklin, Indiana, and Susan S. Canfield of Evansville, Indiana; two granddaughters, Catherine S. Canfield of Fishers, Indiana, and Carrie P. Canfield of Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Darlene Steiner of Lancaster, California; one brother-in-law, Louis H. Barbin of Brazil, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews; plus two lifelong friends, Elvira Lors of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Relma Eick of Addison, Illinois. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling hours are Friday, October 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Lutheran Community Home on West Church Avenue in Seymour, Indiana, and Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus, Indiana. FUNERAL: The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 1, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on 25th Street with Pastor Andrew Currao officiating.
