Elizabeth Impton
May 26, 1927 ~ April 28, 2021
Elizabeth “Bettie” Impton, 93, of Columbus, went to a better world April 28, 2021. She was born in Avon, Indiana to William Short and Pattie (Gearries) Short. Her father worked on the B & O Railroad and was transferred to No. Vernon when she was very small. She grew up there, and while in high school, she was a member of the Glee Club and was chosen to sing at the Cadle Tabernacle in Indianapolis. After High School she began singing with local bands, Larry Waka, Tom Pickett, Gary Davis and Trout Kleni. One time while in California at a dance in Santa Monica, Savana Hulk was playing and she sang with them and also another time, in a cabin. She also sang with Frankie Carle. She made many appearances on the Donnie show.
Elizabeth was very avid animal lover! She could not bear a hungry or neglected animal. For about 14 years she went to Lowell Road boat ramp every day and left food for the animals. She also put food out daily for opossums and racoons as well as stray cats. She carried bread in her car for the birds in the many parking lots in town. When driving if she saw a goose, swan or birds looking for food she went home got food and went back to feed them. Elizabeth loved watching basketball, reading and watching wild life.
While in high school she got a summer job with a dental clinic where She fell in love with it found her niche and was a dental lab technician when she retired. She attended Lowell General Baptist Church.
Elizabeth is survived by several nieces and nephews, including her nephews, Dusty Short and Bill Staples and a great nephew, Chris Graburn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters, one whom she was very close with, Mary Staple.

I meet Elizabeth at the tire shop my husband and I ran in Hope, In. ( Leonard’s tire) Elizabeth came in one day, made a comment on a scarf i was wearing. I gave it to her as a gift so she could be warm when going and feeding the animals 💗 She touched my life. May the Lord comfort those she leaves behind 🤟
