Eric H. Kemp

Eric H. Kemp, 92, of Columbus passed away on Friday, May 8th at Four Seasons Health Care Center.
Eric was born in Acle, England to parents Kenneth and Ella May Kemp on March 26th, 1928.
During the blitz of London, Eric and his younger brother were evacuated from England to relatives in Canada for the duration of the war. Upon returning to England, Eric enlisted in the Royal Air Force where he served for two years. After his service, he moved to Peterborough, England and earned his mechanical engineering degree. He worked for Perkins Diesel Company where he met and married his wife Enid Yates on September 21st, 1957. In 1967, he was recruited by Cummins Engine Company as a mechanical engineer and moved with his family to Columbus, Indiana where he worked until his retirement.
Eric was active in the Columbus Lions Club where he served as President for several terms and received the Melvin Jones Fellow award in 1994. He had a keen interest in aviation, was an avid gardener, loved animals and enjoyed wood working.
Eric is survived by his wife, Enid Kemp of Columbus, daughters, Jackie Jurrema of Columbus, Dr. Gillian Kemp of Evansville, IN and Lisa Kemp of Columbus; grandchildren, Briana Jurrema of Houston, TX and Christopher Jurrema of Franklin, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Kemp, of Great Yarmouth, England.
Following his wishes, Eric will be cremated and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private in Garland Brook Cemetery located in Columbus, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
