Etta “Lucille” Whited, 90, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away at 10:35 p.m., August 17, 2019, at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community in Franklin. Etta was born September 28, 1928, in Casey County, Kentucky, the daughter of Samuel and Mildred V. Wethington Murphy. She married Homer Worth Whited on June 1, 1946. Etta and Homer had recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. They had met when they were just eleven years old, becoming sweethearts in two weeks, and remained that way thru grade school. They have been together 80 wonderful years. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years and was a member of the First Separate Baptist Church of Franklin. Etta was an animal lover, enjoyed quilting, getting together with her family, was an excellent cook, and loved her flower beds. The greatest enjoyment in her life was taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Homer Worth Whited; children, Shirley G. Blair, the Rev. James Michael Whited, Homer (Lana) Whited, all of Columbus, Jacqueline L. (Randall) McGaha of Franklin, and Kimberly J. (Allen) Wiggington of Needham, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; as well as a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Angela G. Carmer; a great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Whited; and siblings, Virgil Murphy, Roy Murphy, Mary A. Murphy, Cora (Wilbur) Whitley, Coy (Claudie) Murphy, Murl (Effie) Murphy, Beulah Summers-Woodrum, and Mae (Kenneth) Malone. The Rev. James Michael Whited will be conducting the service assisted by the Rev. Nick Whited, the Rev. Donnie Wiggington, the Rev. Anthony Wiggington, and the Rev. Johnny Perkins on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 11a.m. at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, (905 S. Main St., Edinburgh, Indiana 46131). Friends may call Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana. Memorials may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.

    My heart hurts but I know Sis. Lucille is happy and whole now! I dearly loved Sis. Lucille, she was a special lady, and mother figure to me all my life. May you all rest knowing she is healed now! You can see her again one day afterwhile! I love you all dearly! We wished we could be there with you all tomorrow, but we’re needed here, and I know you all understand why. May God comfort your alls hearts!
