Eugene P. Graves

Eugene P. Graves, 84, of Columbus, passed away November 21, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Eugene was born October 9, 1939, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Archie Wheeler Graves and Hattie Schlehuber Graves. On April 6, 1968, he married Martha A. Phillps. Eugene was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the end of the Korean Conflict. He was later employed by Mobil Pipeline for 30 years and retired as a Right-of-Way Agent. Outside of work, Eugene had many hobbies, that expressed his artistic side. He enjoyed woodworking, was a “Master Model Builder”, creating intricately detailed model trucks, and was also an avid collector of Lionel O-Gauge trains. Eugene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha; his children, Perry Graves of Columbus, and Carrie (Chris) Pletcher of Wellington, Colorado; a daughter-in-law Amy Graves of Columbus; grandchildren Joshua, Caleb, Daniel, John, and Isaac Pletcher, Julia Graves, Breanna (Elijah) Dement, as well as Anthony, Sarah, and Zachary Graves. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Marie Graves Schmidt; as well as a son Bryan Graves. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the Jewell–Rittman Family Funeral Home with Shawn Mahoney officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
