FUNERAL:   Monday October 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Jim Atkins officiating. VISITATION: Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home. BURIAL:  Garland Brook Cemetery next to his wife.Freddie Deveryle Shatto, 83, of Elizabethtown, passed away at 8:50 p.m. October 24, 2018, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Freddie was born July 25, 1935 in Columbus, the son of Samuel Thomas and Mary Lucille Garner Shatto. He married Opal Jane Lancaster on August 21, 1953 and they spent 61 beautiful years together.  She preceded him in death on September 7, 2014. When he was younger, Freddie served in the ROTC. After he and Opal were married, he went to work for Kroots, Golden Foundry for several years, finally retiring from Arvin Industries after 20 years of service. Freddie was a member of 25th Street Church of Christ. He was very proud of obtaining his plumbing license, owning and operating Shatto Plumbing in his free time. Freddie was very active in his children’s lives, coaching his sons in baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed hunting when he was younger. Once he moved out to the country, Freddie’s love for hunting turned into a love of gardening, feeding all the wildlife around him. The funeral will be Monday October 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Jim Atkins officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery next to his wife. Survivors include a son Gary Deveryle Shatto of Elizabethtown; a daughter Linda (Fred) Robertson of Columbus; grandchildren Keri Scutter, Jamie, Jessie, and Krista Shatto, as well as Jonathan and Caitlin Robertson; 11 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; as well as a sister Judith (Bill) Tatum of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son Larry Thomas Shatto; and a brother William Shatto. “Our dad was a kind and generous man to everyone around him. His family and friends will miss him, but treasure knowing someone like Dad. We know he is so happy now to be reunited with our mom and family in heaven.”
