Gale F. "Pee Wee" Reed, 88, of Scottsburg, died at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Scott Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Reed was a veteran of the United States Navy. After retiring from Cosco, he was employed at Turner Machine Shop. He enjoyed fishing, walking and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Born in Columbus Sept. 26, 1922, Mr. Reed was the son of Atlas A. and Lilly Mae Lovelace Reed. He married Jane Holcomb in May 1951. She preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived a daughter, Nancy Philyaw of Scottsburg; a stepson, Mike (Debbie) Holcomb of New Washington; grandchildren, Craig Holcomb, Kim Gates, Chris Davis and Brittney Wells; and great-grandchildren, Zach, Cody, Sierra, Marvin, Skylar, Jaden, Raelyn, Angel and Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. FUNERAL - will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. CALLING - will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday. BURIAL - will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

  1. I worked in Customer Services at Cosco and Gale would ship out parts for our department. He was a very kind person and always had a pleasant smile. I just hope his passing was not a lingering long situation. Goodbye Gale.
