Gary C. Mitchell, aged 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, in Norton Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky. Born on March 7, 1946, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to the late Franklin and Gladys Mitchell, Gary lived a life marked by service and gentleness, touching the lives of all who knew him.
Gary proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army before establishing a distinguished career as an industrial sewing machinist at Roviar and Louisville Manufacturing, eventually retiring from the United Parcel Service. His dedication to work was rivaled only by his devotion to his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Carlotta G. Lawson Mitchell; son, Steven (Kayla) Mitchell; and his grandson, Hunter Mitchell. Gary was also a brother to the late Eugene Mitchell, Michael David Mitchell, and Juanita Swengel. Known for his loving nature, thoughtfulness, and gentle spirit, Gary's legacy will forever be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral services honoring Gary’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024 in Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Aaron Erhardt officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
