Georgia Mae Schooler Swafford, 82, of Elizabethtown, IN, passed into Heaven at 9:18 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 at her home. Georgia was born in Dover Hill, IN on February 22, 1940 to Floyd Chestnut and Golda Jackson Chestnut. She married Elbert Schooler on June 16, 1957 and he passed July 19, 1983. She then married Bob Swafford on October 19, 1984 and he passed June 26, 2004. Georgia retired from the Bartholomew County School Corporation. She loved to travel, crochet and spend time with her family especially her great grandchildren. Georgia was presented the Family of The Year award by Mayor Kristen Brown in 2012. She was a member of the Garden City Church of Christ and the Roaming Buffalo’s Camping Club. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Garden City Christian Church, 3245 Jonesville Road, Columbus, IN with Brian Gilfroy and Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Georgia will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Garden City Christian Church and Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana. Survivors include her son, Jerry (Mary) Schooler of Seymour, IN; a daughter, Nancy (Paul) Barbour of Elizabethtown; a brother, Rodger Chestnut of Vincennes, IN; a sister, Carol (Larry) Kirk of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Andrea Barbour, Matthew (Alicia) Barbour, Molly (Nick) Klinger, Elizabeth (Kyle) Frazier and great grandchildren, Lydia Barbour and Emma Klinger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Golda Chestnut; husbands, Elbert Schooler and Bob Swafford; grandson, Adam Barbour, brother, Carl Chestnut; sisters, Helen Heshelman and Darlene Biedenkopf.
