Gregory Wayne Perry of Houston, Texas, formerly of Columbus, passed away November 29, 2011, after a long, courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Born April 8, 1958, in Columbus, he was the son of Wayne and Marjorie Johnson Perry. He was a 1976 graduate of Columbus North High School and graduated from Purdue University in 1980 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. Greg began his career when he was chosen as the Landscape Architect for the 1982 Women's Day Magazine House of the Year located at Tipton Lakes. He was an accomplished and award winning landscape and pool designer. Greg was handpicked by President Bush and his wife Barbara to design the garden at their new home in Houston. Barbara liked him so much she invited him back to speak at her garden club. At the young age of 13, Greg was awarded the Boy Scouts highest honor, the Eagle Scout Rank. He loved driving and showing his 1964 Mercury Comet which he and his dad restored the summer before his 16th birthday. Greg grew up riding motorcycles and shared that passion with his only child, Jacob Perry of Houston. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Perry, and a sister, Vickie Stover, both of Columbus. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia Society, Acute Myeloid Section.
