Eichel, 95, of Columbus, IN and formerly of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully Thursday August 4, 2016 at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville, IN. Mrs. Eichel was born July 28, 1921 in Camilla Georgia. She was a school secretary for Fort Wayne Community Schools for many years before retiring and moving to Gainesville, Georgia where she loved living near her parents, Judson Leland Hudson and Odessa (Bennett) Hudson; her brother, Jack Hudson and her sister, Daphne Shultz. She loved golf and belonged to a ladies league as well as a couple’s league with her husband, Ike. After returning to Indiana, the Eichel’s joined the First United Methodist Church in Columbus where Gwen belonged to the Miriam Circle and volunteered for many years helping with weekly bulletins, the annual smorgasbord and the cookie walk. She made the best snickerdoodles!!!!! In her final years, she enjoyed living at Brown County Health and Living where her nursing staff grew to be like family and she felt at home. Mrs. Eichel was preceded in death by her husband, Otto L. “Ike” Eichel on October 25, 2008 as well as her parents, brother and sister. Survivors include her son, Karl (Sharleen) Eichel of Columbus; her daughter, Janice (David) Boyle of Newburgh, IN; her grandsons, Aaron Eichel of Columbus and Zachary (Kristin) Eichel of Indianapolis; her granddaughters, Jessica (Andrew) Zellers of Evansville and Amanda (Ryan) Dawson of Owensboro, KY; two great granddaughters, Margaret Eichel and Ruby Zellers and a great grandson, Rowan Zellers; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

  1. I remember my mother laughing at the silliest things. She took great pleasure in finding humor in the newspaper cartoons or the stories in the back of the Reader’s Digest. When I find myself giggling I can hear her laughter joining in.
