Helen Marie Short Witte May 18, 1911 - June 12, 2006 Helen Marie Short Witte, 95, of Taylor Road, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. She was born on a farm near Hopewell, Indiana, May 18, 1911 to Frank and Myrtle Henderson Short. She married Richard Witte on June 30, 1934 and enjoyed and took pride in making their home and welcoming friends in the Southport area of Indianapolis. Helen was an accomplished seamstress and artist, painting both water colors and oil. Helen was a founding member of the Indianapolis Symphony-South Group in Indianapolis. She was a long time member of the Southport Presbyterian Church, a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church after her move to Columbus and attended Four Seasons Chapel. She lived the last twelve years of her life at Four Seasons Retirement Center. Helen was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; brothers, Lester, Francis and Leon Short; and sisters, Gladys Chastain, Margaret Lowe, Hazel McAnany, Sena Tegler, Doris and Mildred Short. She is survived by a son, Kent (Elizabeth) Witte of Columbus and a daughter, Beth (Bruce) Murray of Newport, Kentucky; Grandchildren, Stephen (Holly) Bliss of Cincinnati, Andrew Bliss of Taiwan, Heather Witte and Ward Witte of Indianapolis; Great-Grandchildren Samantha and Clay Bliss of Cincinnati, and Alexandra and Katherine Queisser of Indianapolis; and a brother, Eugene Short of Greenwood. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling will be Thursday June 15, 2006 from 12:30 until the time of service. FUNERAL SERVICE: The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday June 15, 2006 at the Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel, 1901 Taylor Road, Columbus, Indiana 47203, with the Reverend Norie Erickson officiating. A reception will follow the service at Four Seasons. BURIAL: Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Donations Information Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Heritage Fund for the Richard and Helen Witte and Earl and Rosalyn Hess Fund to benefit the Bartholomew County School Foundation.
