Helen Maxine Barnes January 20, 1929 - March 25, 2009 Helen Maxine Barnes, 15th Street, died at 7:31 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Bethel Holiness Church. After her children had grown, she was a caretaker for several retired doctors in town. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved her church and was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and homemaker. Born Jan. 20, 1929 in Bartholomew County, she was the daughter of Dempsey and Della Ferguson. She married George Andrew Barnes May 25, 1950. Survivors include a son, Douglas Jay Barnes of Columbus; daughters, Pamela Sue (Russell) Hardin and Melissa Sue (Robert) Jeffries, both of Columbus; sisters, Phyllis (Kenneth) Trulock and Betty (Max) Bayliff, both of Tipton; grandchildren, Amber M. and Marcus Duane Barnes, Crystal N. Brown and Alisha Smoot and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in 1994; a son, Mark Duane Barnes and a sister, Mildred Coffey. Funeral Information VISITATION: Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home and also from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Bethel Holiness Church. FUNERAL: 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Bethel Holiness Church with Pastor Nathan Schockley officiating. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery Donations Information In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel Holiness Church or Belize School Missionary Fund.
