Herbert "Herb" Behrman

Herbert “Herb” Behrman, 81, of Columbus, left this earth on January 11, 2024. He was born on August 10, 1942, to Melvin Behrman, and Elizabeth Glee Thayer Behrman in Columbus, Indiana.
Herb grew up on a farm and loved all animals. After he graduated high school in 1959, he served in the Air Force from 1959 to 1964. When he returned to Indiana, he was employed by Cummins, where he spent 43 years with the company. He married Beverly Wilson on June 3, 1972. They have two children, Dr. Annette Behrman (Michael Witschke) and Michael Behrman. His friends and family enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor, his compassion, and his friendliness. He will be dearly missed.
Herb had a lot of knowledge about many things and enjoyed all things trains, planes, and automobiles. Aside from those, History and Meteorology were his favorite hobbies, and with his mechanical aptitude, he could fix a variety of things. Herb was an avid traveler; he and his family and friends traveled to many states and several countries in Europe. Herb was a member of the Sandy Hook United Methodist Church. He played the piano and organ for several years at Elizabethtown Methodist Church, as well as, at several weddings.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Wilson Behrman, of Columbus, IN; children, Michael Behrman, of Oakland, CA, and Dr. Annette (Michael Witschke) Behrman, of San Diego, CA; brother, Ned Behrman, of Columbus, IN; sister, Gail Carvin, of Franklin, IN; brother-in-law, Mark Wilson, of Lexington, IN; sister-in-law, Viv Wilson, of Lexington, IN; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin, and Elizabeth Behrman; and his infant brother, Julian Behrman.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Dazet officiating the service. Visitation will be held from 11-1 prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Those wishing may make memorial donations through the funeral home to Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, or the American Heart Association.

Herb was a friendly face when I worked at Cummins in the summers. He knew me from church and always took time to talk to me when he saw me come in for my shift and it was nice to have that acquaintance in a new environment. I’m sorry we can’t be there Saturday but we send our condolences and know he’s at peace!

I met Herb at uncle Forest’s reunion. We were playing football out back around the pond and Herb got the ball and started one way and then switched and went another so they called him Crazy Legs. Barbara. Kyle
