Imogene James

Imogene James, of Madison, died on March 10, 2026 at Autumn Trace located in Madison, Indiana.
Imogene was born June 21, 1928 in Rush County, Indiana, the daughter of Lawrence and Ethel Morgan Mix. She married Dr. Carroll James in 1949 In Switzerland County. She was married to Dr. James 65 years when he preceded her in death.
Imogene was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, traveling and her christain church friends at Parkside Baptist Church where she is a member.

Imogene liked the great outdoors along with watching and feeding the birds. She also loved dogs and always had one or more for companions.

She shared her home caring for 23 people including her children and the elderly throughout her married life.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Jewell Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory with grandsons, Kevin and David James, officiating. Calling will be from 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery next to her late husband. Pall bearers will be Joe Kent, Ronnie Mix, David Mix, Richard Mix, Todd Hackett and Danny Young.

Survivors include her son, Keith Austin (Ann) James of Columbia, Tennessee, grandchildren, Kevin, David, Kristen, Eddie and Amelia;; brother, Paul Thomas Mix; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; parents, Lawrence and Ethel Mix; son, Lawrence Alan James; daughter, Carol Jean James; brothers, John Edward Mix, Larry Lee Mix, and Harold Elden Mix; sister, Lorretta Alene Kent.
