Jaclyn Marie Shaw, 18, of Columbus, passed away at 2:45 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2023, at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis after a week in the ICU following a car accident. Jaclyn was born January 20, 2005, in Columbus to Mary Beth Kring Shaw and the late Jack Eugene Shaw. Jaclyn brought joy and light to those around her at an early age. She found delight in even the smallest things and this was contagious to those around her. Jaclyn had a variety of passions. She joined 4-H at the young age of 4 and continued until she was 14. She had been a member of the Lincoln Center Skate Club, Girl Scouts and her school’s environmental club. She was an avid reader, especially enjoying the “Warriors” series, and loved anime. Jaclyn was a keen thrifter and had an eye for the beauty in everything from nature to balloons. A very talented artist, Jaclyn was skilled in drawing, painting and jewelry making. Jaclyn was a 2023 graduate of Columbus Signature Academy New Tech High School and was an Eli Lilly Endowment Scholarship Finalist. Prior to high school she attended Parkside Elementary and Northside Middle School. She enjoyed working at Dunkin until recently when she started student teaching in her freshman year at IUPUC, as an education major. She was enchanted by the students she met at Rock Creek Elementary School. Jaclyn was many things to many people. She was kind, compassionate, a helper to those in need, a nature lover, and an animal lover (especially her cats!). She was devoted to her family and friends. Jaclyn was known as a gift-giver, and true to her loving and generous spirit, in her last days has saved and enhanced numerous lives across the country through the gift of organ donation. Jaclyn will be greatly missed. Those whose lives she has touched will be forever enriched by her generosity, kindness, and love. Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling hours will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Jewell Rittman Family Funeral home to help with final expenses. Survivors include her mother, Mary Beth; a brother, Seth Kolb; aunts Gayla (Dave) Cheatham; Judy (Jim) Sexton and Joy Shaw; uncles, Wesley (Sonja) Kring and Judson (Christen) Kring; and cousins Amy (Stephen) Eberwine, Madeline, Julia, and Emma Wilson, Elena and Hope Eberwine; Jason (Nora) Cheatham, Jayden and Josiah Cheatham; Katavah, Mikiah, and Haniah Kring; Kahanna Kring (Sam Cooper), Beatrice Cooper; Veronica and Thomas Kring; Ivy Willard; Dustin Hicks, Greg (Paige) Sexton; JiMele (Wade) Feller; JinAyla (Jason) Bollman; Asher Marks; Crystal LeMasters Delph; Leslee Shaw; and Eric LeMasters. Jaclyn was preceded in death by her father, Jack Shaw; grandparents, Gayle and Mary Carolyn Kring; and cousins Julianne and David Kring. Arrangements entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
