James A. Tarnow, 84, of Conifer Court died at 10:02 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Tarnow was a Lieutenant Senior Grade in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Officers Training School and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was then recalled during the Korean Emergency, serving in Intelligence in Washington, D.C.
He graduated from Western Military Academy in Alton, Illinois, and Purdue University, Class of 1950, with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
As a young man, he worked with his father and stepmother with Tarnow Pipeline Construction Company. He retired from Indiana Gas Company (Vectren) after 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Purdue Alumni Association and Professional Engineers Association, loved spending time with his family and adored his wife of 30 years. He was a member of Village Chapel Interdenominational Church in Pinehurst, N.C.
Born in LaPorte, Indiana Dec. 29, 1924, Mr. Tarnow was the son of Lee and Nellie Tarnow. He married Rosalie Elliott Aug. 24, 1979. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Deborah (James) Nolen of Houston, Texas, Amy Steelman of Indianapolis and Gail (Yancy) Laubsch of Greentown; sons, Jeffrey (Sue) Tarnow of Washington and Ronald (Rhonda) Poe of Coatesville; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert C. Tarnow and Walter Tarnow.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: A private family service will be conducted at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
BURIAL: Will be at a later date at Garland Brook Cemetery.
