James E. Kessler May 09, 1934 - May 24, 2006 James E. Kessler, 72, of North Keith Drive West died at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Kessler retired from Western Union after 30 years of service. He also was a Realtor, broker and owner of Kessler Appraisals. He was a veteran of the Air Force and managed and maintained top secret information and equipment for the military at Jefferson Proving Ground. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greensburg, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Columbus Board of Realtors and also had served on the Western Union executive board. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and buying old homes to remodel. Born in Wabash May 9, 1934, Mr. Kessler was the son of Donald Earl and Marion Barton Knowels Kessler. He married Nina Buell Kessler Oct. 27, 1956, in Greensburg. Survivors include his wife; sons, James Bryan Kessler, Steven Barton Kessler and Michael L. (Vicky) Kessler, all of Columbus; a daughter, Dawn Elaine (Ken) Staggs of Columbus; sisters, Mary Ellen Green, Jane (James) Davis and Doris Fausbinder, all of Greensburg; grandchildren, Brandon Kessler, Casandra Kessler, Beau Michael Branum, Seth Staggs, Whitney Kessler and Jacob Kessler; and stepgrandsons, Adrian Peterson, David Lambert and Eric and Jake DeBusk. He was preceded in death by a brother, Major Jack D. Kessler. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Dr. William H. Griffith officiating with military graveside rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. VISITATION: 11:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday. BURIAL: Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
