OFFICIATING: Mr. Harvey Taylor FINAL RESTING PLACE: Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, Indiana, at 11a.m. Tuesday. VISITATION: Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday with a Masonic Service at 5:00 p.m. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, or Crestview Church of Lafayette. The Rev. James Henry Stanfield, 93, died at 8:05 a.m., June 5, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. James was born February 19, 1921 in New Albany, Indiana, the son of William Theodore and Bessie Hawkins Stanfield. After the death of his father, James lived at the Indiana Masonic Home of Franklin, Indiana from ages 7 to 19, where he graduated from high school and made many life-long friends. He married Helen Marie Harrell September 27, 1942. She preceded him in death in 1987. He married Patricia Borders Settle on July 2, 1988, and she survives. James was an outgoing, fun-loving person who worked in sales much of his life, including Omar Bakeries, Lambert Manufacturing, and New York Life Insurance. At the age of 58, he felt the call to ministry, and began his education, which led to a Diploma of Christian Ministries from Huntington College, and ordination as a minister of the United Brethren Church in 1993. He served as pastor of Rugby United Brethren Church, Rugby, Indiana until the age of 80 in 2001. He was also an Assistant Chaplain of Columbus Regional Hospital from 2006 to 2008 and a volunteer chaplain for several years. James was a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, and was active in Christian service most of his life, serving as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, visitation minister, nursing home minister and small group leader, as well as singing in the choir over the years he lived in Columbus, Lafayette and other Indiana towns, and was a worship leader of the Masonic Home Alumni Association. He loved his family, God's Word, music, and meeting people, and was seen as a role model and mentor to all those he encountered. James was also a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge #20. Sunday with a Masonic Service at 5:00 p.m. conducted by St. Johns Masonic Lodge #20 and additional calling one hour prior to the service on Monday. Survivors include his beloved wife Patricia; children David D. (Connie) Stanfield of Phoenix, Arizona; Janet R. (John) Seery of Katy, Texas; Linda J. (Kenneth) Taulman of Lafayette; Daryl A. (Wanda) Stanfield of Danville; Allen M. Stanfield of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter-in-law Debbie Stanfield of Lawton, Oklahoma; step-daughters Carole L. (Eric) Braund, of Lafayette and Gina N. (Kevin) Haile of Waveland; 16 grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchilden; 20 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandchild; and several much-loved nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Helen; son, Richard James Stanfield; grandson, James Allen Stanfield; brothers, Victor, Trevor and Frank Stanfield; and sisters Veatrice Bushau and Ruth A. Blackburn.

  2. Dear Pat & Family, I remember meeting Jim through Huntington College & The Rugby Church. He was an inspiration to all to never think we are too old to return to school to do what we are called to do. That will always stick with me.
