James "Jim" Dureya, 50, of South Countrybrook Street, died at 9:29 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mr. Dureya retired from Cummins Engine Company in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, building model cars, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a volunteer firefighter with German Township Fire Department for several years and a member of the American Legion. He was a diehard Chicago Bears fan and will be deeply missed by his dog Ginger. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Aug. 13, 1961, Mr. Dureya was the son of Louis Dureya and Katherine Jessie Starks. He is survived by daughters, Jessica Dureya of Shelbyville, Indiana, Jamie (Douglas) Huckaby of Columbus, Indiana, and Ashley (Benji) Smith of Columbus, Indiana; stepdaughters, Angie Burton of Columbus, Indiana, Marena Spencer of St. Paul, Indiana, and Brandy Edwards of Columbus, Indiana; 13 grandchildren, with two more expected in the coming weeks; a brother, George David (Laura Plessinger) Starks of Columbus, Indiana; sisters, Kathy (Stanley) Davis of North Vernon, Indiana, Debbie (Edward) Dickmeyer of North Vernon, Indiana, Betty (Michael) Toepfert of North Vernon, Indiana, and Bobbi Jo (Damon) Buford of Columbus, Indiana; and companions, Kathy Burton and Stella Dureya He was preceded in death by his parents; and his in-laws, Arena "Dumpy" Burton and Betty and Ray Ogle. SERVICES: FUNERAL - will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Bishop Charles Sims officiating. CALLING - will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until service time. BURIAL - In keeping with Mr. Dureya's wishes, cremation is planned.
