Jasper Stanley Fields

Jasper Stanley Fields passed from this life December 5, 2025 at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room. Stanley, as most people knew him, was born in Edmonton, Kentucky, June 2, 1927 to Evan and Lonie D. Fields. He moved to Columbus in 1945 in pursuit of the American dream; returning for his bride, Doris Elaine Ballard, on January 11, 1946. Our family loved hearing their story of how they were secretly married in Bowling Green and hopped on a bus to Columbus for their get-a-way. Arriving in Columbus around midnight, they walked to their one room home and began their life together. Stanley retired from Golden Casting after 40 years . The job he loved most was his farm south of Ogilville where he raised cows and pigs, grew corn and soybeans, along with a vegetable garden that many families enjoyed. Stanley and his brothers spent many days fishing, woodworking, and completing home projects for their children. Dad and Mom often went for drives in the country which usually included driving by their farm to see what improvements the new owners had made. We, his children, were his designated drivers in his later years; it gave him great joy to look for sightings of wild turkeys and deer. It became a competition amongst us as we kept track of how many we saw which earned us bragging rights for the day. Dad gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was a member of East Columbus Separate Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and all-around “fix it” man. If there was something to be repaired he was the man. This was not only at the church; many friends and family sought his expertise with automobile and small engine repairs. Dad was a quiet and gentle man with a humble spirit. When he offered advice, we knew he had given it much thought. Our goodbyes were always a hug and kiss, “I love you” and a finger point with his saying “I’ll see you next time.” As we think about that saying now, we believe it was his gentle urging to live for Christ so that we will be reunited in Heaven. We love you dad, we’ll see you next time. Stanley is preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris; parents, Evan, and Lonie; stepmother, Mae; brothers, Dennis, Buel, and Arlis; son-in-law, Steve Michaels; grandson-in-law, Jamie Esparza, and great-granddaughter Kaylee Perry. Stanley is survived by his children, Susan Michaels, Jimmy Fields, Virginia (Russ) Dixon, Sheila Davis, and Troy Fields; a stepbrother, J. W. McCauley; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends their warmest thanks to The Belmont staff and Keystone Hospice team, Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room, and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana for their compassionate care. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Jewell Rittman Funeral Service and Cremation. Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Jewell Rittman and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorial Donations may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
