Jean M. Fox Johns passed away at 5:52 p.m. on July 27, 2012 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. She was born at home in Brown County on September 3, 1924 to Raymond and Susan Snyder Fox. Jean's childhood family also consisted of a brother Jesse Fox, who is deceased, and a sister Mattie Lucille Smith of Edinburgh, Indiana. With the passing of Jean's mother when she was six years old, her father married Bessie Stott Fox. There were eleven more children added to her family. A step-sister Evelyn Sherrell, who is deceased; half-siblings Johnny Fox, who is deceased, Vinnie Hacker, who is deceased, Robert Fox, who is deceased, Shirley Pruitt, who is deceased, Janice Bray of Morgantown, Indiana, Carl Fox of Greenwood, Indiana, Donna Fulkerson of Morgantown, Indiana, J.R. (Becky) Fox & Laura (Ernie) Wooldridge both of Nineveh, Indiana, and Richard Fox, who is deceased. Jean married Jack D. Johns on November 1, 1941. They enjoyed God's blessing of 54 years together. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1994. Over the past seven years she has spent wonderful times with her best friend, Jim David. Jean and Jack were blessed with six children: Jack (Margaret) Johns of Roswell, New Mexico, Susan (Bob) Perry, who are both deceased, Terry (Don) Murphy of Elizabethtown, Indiana, Kathy (Leroy) Hoover of Clarksville, Tennessee, Robin McCue & Shawn (Juanita) Johns both of Columbus, Indiana. They were also blessed with many grandchildren, Chad Johns, Kirsten (Rob) Chenoweth, & Kalen Pedigo of Roswell, New Mexico, Sonja (Jeff) Johnson, Kimberly Rutan,& Christopher Perry all of Columbus, Indiana, Darby Murphy who is deceased, Yancey Murphy of Elizabethtown, Indiana, Tara (Dan) Humphreys of Columbus, Indiana, Anna (Andy) Walter & Jonathan (Fiancée Brittney Voerrenger) Hoover of Clarksville, Tennessee, Hannah McCue of Orlando, Florida, Rachel & Joseph McCue of Columbus, Indiana, Zachery (Christa) Johns, Isaiah (Lindsey) Johns, Jesse Johns, & Ethan (fiancée Lauren Meyer) Johns all of Columbus, Indiana; Great-Grandchildren Ryan & Taylor Pedigo, Thomas East, who is deceased, Dean & Brianna Chenoweth, Tyler (fiancée Katelyn Briner) Johnson, Justin (Jessica) Johnson, Paige (Ryan) Updike, Mallory & Mikayla Rutan, Joslin Perry, Daniel, Heidi, & Joel Murphy, Jackson & Carleigh Humphreys, Dustin Walter, Logan & Kyla Jimenez, Geremiah Hoover, Evan McCue, Hayden & Owen Johns, & Jax Johns; Great-Great-Granddaughters Madisyn Johnson, Kaidence Briner, & Gracyn Updike, who is due to arrive in this world on August 19, 2012; Step-Grandchildren Rodney Perry, who is deceased, Jason Perry, Irwin Hoover, Allen (Melody) Hoover, Rita (Jeff) Huddleston, & James (Kim) Hoover. She was employed at Camp Atterbury from 1943 to 1944. She was a loving stay at home Christian mother, and was a caregiver of several children in her home for many years. Jean was an active member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church for over forty years. SERVICES: 1:00 p.m. Monday July 30, 2012 at Flintwood Wesleyan Church OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Wes Jones FINAL RESTING PLACE: Garland Brook Cemetery VISITATION: 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home ADDITIONAL VISITATION: Noon until 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church

  1. we are so sorry for the loss of your mother. she was a beautiful lady and will be rememeber every time we look at Kathy and the rest of you girls! i know there are no words to ease the burden you feel today, just rememeber all the good, fun times spent with all your families! she is still alive in all of you. she is smiling down and looking and watching over you now. what a glorious place she must be in now. and someday we will all be there. hugs and prayers to all of you.
