June 6, 1966 ~ March 15, 2023

Jeffrey Alan Huffer, 56, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home. Born June 6, 1966, in Columbus, Jeff was the son of Eugene L. Huffer and Joyce A. Bush Joy. He is survived by his brother Greg Huffer of Columbus; sisters Lou Ann Nyberg of Columbus, and Karen Misner of Decatur County; 4 nieces and nephews; 5 great nieces and nephews; and stepsisters Alysa Jones of North Carolina, Kimberly Rowe Taylor of Greenwood, and Pam Haynes of North Carolina. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathy, and his stepmother Carolyn. Jeff was a 1984 graduate of Columbus East High School. He was self-employed as the owner and operator of a lawn care service. He lived his entire life in the Petersville/Newbern Community. Jeff was a kind, caring, and thoughtful brother and friend. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile and will be missed immensely by all who knew him. Jeff was an exceptional basketball and softball player when he was a young man. He enjoyed watching and following all sports and was an avid Colts, Steelers, Bobby Knight (in the day), and IU fan. He was a sportsman who loved hunting (particularly deer), fishing, and trapping. He was a nature’s child who loved everything that the great outdoors offered. When relaxing, Jeff loved listening to music or watching classic movies. He took particular pride in his lawn care work. He loved working in our orchards and property, planting, pruning, and spraying fruit trees, flowering trees, bushes, shrubs, etc. Jeff also enjoyed planting and caring for daylilies and other flowering plants, and looked forward to planting food plots for the critters every fall, and took great pride in helping maintain our country properties. He excelled at everything that involved the outdoors. On top of that, Jeff was also an exceptional cook. Jeff will be cremated per his wishes, and there will be no visitation or service. He requested that his family have a private service at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeff’s honor to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana. Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Jeff was such a kind man. He took care of our lawns for years. He always took the time to talk to us and he was particularly smitten with our new son who he met last summer when he was only 4 months old. He offered to teach him how to hunt and fish one day when he was old enough and I planned to take him up on that offer. He was so much more than an “employee” of ours. He was a generous and kind man and we will truly miss him.

  2. Jeff always took time to stop and say hello when I was home. Pop and I always enjoyed our visits to the Lilly Farm and spending an afternoon full of laughter with “the boys.”
He was a kind young man who will be missed terribly. My deepest sympathies to Greg, Karen, and Lou Ann

  3. Jeff and Greg have always been like brothers to me. Always the outdoorsman, Jeff loved to hunt and fish. I miss him.

  4. I am so saddened to hear of Jeff’s passing. Jeff was a great guy who took pride in cutting my parent’s (Cleon/Lola Sweeney) lawn for many years. I always loved to chat with Jeff and hear his latest stories each week about hunting, fishing, flowers and his brother, Greg. Sending prayers to Greg and his family. He will be greatly missed! Stacy Sweeney and family.

  5. My deepest sympathy to the extended Huffer family. While I didn’t know Jeff as I wasn’t around much after he was born, one of my family’s favorite stops when we came to Columbus was to stop in Newburn to see the Huffers. Winnie Huffer was my great Aunt and I remember her very well. I guess there is a pocket in my heart labeled Huffer and I share in your loss.

  6. So sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed. Prayers of comfort to the family.
    Becky Williams
