SERVICES: FUNERAL: Will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Edinburgh First Assembly of God, 904 S. Holland St. with his son, James, officiating. VISITATION: Will be from 12 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. BURIAL: Will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. To view Jerry's memorial video, please CLICK HEREJerry Dale Smith Sr., 68, of Edinburgh, went to be with the Lord at 11:36 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born July 9, 1947, in Edinburgh, the son of James Russell and Sallie Mae Burton Smith. He married Sophie Louisa Burton on Nov. 26, 1965. Jerry was employed by LeBrec (now known as Milestone), retiring after more than 30 years of service. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone who was in need. Jerry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, camping with his family, classic cars and especially loved going on vacations to Florida with his wife, "Lou". They were lucky enough to celebrate 50 wonderful years together in November of 2015. Survivors include his wife, Sophie Louisa Burton Smith of Edinburgh; his mother, Sallie Mae Burton Smith of Edinburgh; sons, Jerry "Dale" Smith Jr. of Edinburgh, James O. (Diane) Smith of Oakland, Maryland; a daughter, Tabitha A. (John) Duty of Columbus; grandchildren, Jacob, Janeane, Aaron, Garrett, Brandon, April, Samantha and Tyler; great­-grandchildren, Salem, Hunter, Gage, Greyson and Brantley; a brother, Terry Lee Smith of Edinburgh; sisters, Bonita (Dennis) Martin, Genny (Terry) Burton and Angie (Tim) Burton all of Edinburgh; a sister­-in-­law, Pam Smith of Edinburgh; and a daughter-­in-­law, Julie Smith of Edinburgh. He was preceded in death by his father, James Russell Smith; and a brother, Larry James Smith.
