Jim E. Landis
October 7, 1926 ~ January 27, 2019
Jim Edward Landis was born October 7, 1926. He joined the US Army at the age of 16. Jim might have fibbed about this age to get in the military as many other young men did during WWII. Jim took great pride in being patriotic and wanted to fight for our wonderful country. The pride of having served his country followed him all the days of his life. Just recently Jim received the WWII Medal of Victory for his service. Even this medal arrived way too late, Jim still cherished it. Jim was never seen outside his home without an army or a hat with a veteran’s logo on it. In 1947 this dark haired, very handsome young man met a young lady named Helen. They married in 1948. In 1949 a little girl named Kathie was born and was the joy of their lives. Sadly, at the age of 18 months Kathie passed away due to an accident. Another daughter was born in December 22, 1951. Being an only child she was the apple of their eye, somewhat spoiled and she brought them great joy. Jackii was at Jim’s side until he went home to be with his precious Savior. In 1980 Jim married Paula Pitney. They were married 39 years. God blessed them with a good life together. Known as Papaw and Nan Nan to their grandkids, Jim and Paula spent countless hours caring for their grandchildren especially Farrah and Nicole. And Jay says it best…”We all know that the whole family play 2nd fiddle to Nicole.” (Pause here) Jim met his savior in 1978 and was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the Holy Ghost. As he became ill he focused even more on his Jesus. As Jim was nearing the end of his life he was disappointed to wake up and find he was still here on this earth. He said he was ready to stay in heaven with Jesus, his little Kathie and the rest of his family. Sunday he woke up as if he saw Jesus saying, “Son, let me take you to your everlasting home.”

Uncle Jim was an inspiration to me. He introduced me to racing and a love of cars and motorcycles!! Oh how he loved his girls!!! Prayers for Paula, Jackie and all. Michael Cole
I have such great childhood memories of Uncle Jim when grandma warner would have the family reunions at lakeshore park. As a child I would always say when I grow up I want to live in Indiana where my Uncle Jim lives. So very sorry for your loss. Love to you all, Kandi

May you be at peace and reminded as one of the great ones
Jim was a mechanic down at R.O. Barber Trucking when I worked there and he shared stories abut driving trucks in the old days, which was very entertaining. We had lots of laughs together and I alway considered him a good friend. After he retired, I looked him up and he was living in Edinburgh and working on lawn mowers. That’s the last time I remember seeing him. Now I wish I had kept in contact with him, but life prevailed and I just never took the time. I thought about him a lot, and just the other day, out of the blue, he came to mind and then my wife saw his obituary and I was very saddened. Jim, your memory will always be with me.
