Joanne (Ashworth) Mitchell Joanne (Ashworth) Mitchell ,92, passed away Sunday July 20,2025 at home with Family by her side. She was born June 26,1933 to Walter Edward Ashworth, JR. and Pauline G. (Coverstone) Ashworth. Joanne graduated from Columbus High School in 1951and attended Franklin College and was a member of the Dela Zeta Sorority. This is where she met her future husband, Keith C. Mitchell. They were married on December 11,1955 in the chapel of the First Christian Church in Columbus IN. Joanne enjoyed working with young people, which led her to leading her children’s 4-H clubs and cub scout troops before pursuing a career in teaching at First Presbyterian Preschool. She enjoyed working with her husband creating and selling handmade candles and hand sewn clothing plus fashion accessories at craft fairs across the state. As a member of both the Indiana State and National Track and Field Official’s associations, she traveled with her husband across the USA officiating meets. Joanne also had the honor of serving as the Indiana delegate for the National Paralympic committee and serving as a Track Official for the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta GA. Most of all, Joanne loved spending time with her family and friends. She didn’t care whether it was an evening spent telling stories around a campfire, sunning on the beach at the seashore or a quiet evening at home. Survivors include her husband Keith C Mitchell of Columbus IN. daughters Paula Mitchell of Franklin IN: Beth (Judy Rogers) Mitchell of Franklin IN: Son K.C.(Bridget) Mitchell Jenison MI. Grand Daughter Emily (Bill) Russner of Grand Rapids MI. Brother Edward (Carla)Ashworth of Delaware OH. Along with many nieces and nephews. Joanne was proceeded in death by her Parents: Sister Janis (Larry) Stillinger of Columbus IN: Brother-in-Law Dean (Margaret) Mitchell of Trafalgar IN. and Sister-in-law Kathleen (Merrill) Smith of Franklin IN. No services ae scheduled for Joanne at this time. She will be laid to rest in the Garland Brook Mausoleum.

  1. I am saddened to hear of Joanne’s passing. She was such a sweet lady. Keith and Joanne were a very devoted couple.

  2. Joanne and Keith were members of our snowbird club in Destin, Florida for many years. Always enjoyed visiting with her afternoons sending hugs and prayers to keith and their family.
