John B. Butler April 04, 1945 - February 24, 2004 John B. Butler, 58, of State St. died at 6:12 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, in Bartholomew County, IN. John was born in Columbus and lived most of his life here. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Central Junior High and graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. He attended Ball State University and graduated from University of Evansville. He taught at English, IN. High School and was assistant basketball coach. He taught at St. Bartholomew Catholic Elementary School and coached both boys and girls basketball teams from 1971 to 1977. John was employed by the City of Columbus Engineering Department June 11, 1979 before transferring to the Planning Department. He played Santa Claus for over 30 years and was an avid collector of many things including Santa memorabilia, Mickey Mouse memorabilia, old movies and trains. He enjoyed horses, dogs, and music. He was an authority on B western movies. He was an avid listener, reader and a friend to many. He was a member of the Elks Club and a former member of the Jaycees. Suvivors included wife, Norma K. Stevenson Butler of Columbus; mother-in-law Amy Stevenson of Brazil, IN; brother-in-law Earl Stevenson of Brazil,IN; sister-in-law Wilma Jenkins of Brazil,IN; 5 nephews and a few cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Information FUNERAL: Friday February 27, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at the Jewell - Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus. VISITATION: Thursday February 26, 2004 from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday Febuary 27, 2004 from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service. MEMORIAlS: may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children.
