John D. Daugherty April 30, 1931 - January 25, 2007 John D. Daugherty, 75, of Indiana SR 58 died at 9:28 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in Columbus. Mr. Daugherty retired from the machine repair department at Cummins Engine Co. in January 1988, after 31 years of service. He was a veteran of the Air Force and a life member of the VFW. John was an animal lover, he enjoyed being outdoors and restoring antique cars. He was a charter member and past president of Columbus Area Rodders. Born in Mitchell April 30, 1931, Mr. Daugherty was the son of Shirley D. and Ida M. Aynes Daugherty. He married Peggy A. White Dec. 15, 1978. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Daugherty of Seymour; a daughter, Sharon Rhoades of Columbus; stepsons, Eddie Harber of Columbus and Neil Harber of Mission Viejo, Calif.; stepdaughters, Susan (Kyle) England of Brownsburg, Sheri (Jeff) Lewis of Columbus and Kim Lohrke of Virginia City, Mont.; grandchildren, Jeremy Rhoades and Kristen LaVanway, children of Sharon Rhoades; Erica Shell, Ashley, Jamie and Michelle Daugherty, children of Mike Daugherty; Jake and Philip England, children of Susan and (Kyle) England; Zach and Joe Lewis, children of Sheri and (Jeff) Lewis; Bryce and Alyssa Harber, children of Neil Harber and (Kathy) Harber; Stacey Baker, Crystal and Cherish Harber, children of Eddie Harber; and Corey Denny, son of Kim Lohrke; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Daugherty. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2007 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating. VISITATION: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007 and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. BURIAL: Daugherty Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
