John J. Patton, 92, of Cheyenne Court, died at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Patton was born in Bluestone, Ky., and moved to Indianapolis in 1938. In 1949 he moved to Sullivan where he lived until moving to Columbus in 2006. He was former owner and operator of Patton's Appliances in Sullivan, loved fishing, his garden and fruit trees and was a member of First Christian Church in Sullivan.
Born Nov. 18, 1917, Mr. Patton was the son of Warren and Eva Davis Patton. He married Pauline Blakeman in December 1948. She preceded him in death in 2005.
Survivors include a son, Daniel W. (Sally) Patton of Columbus; stepsons, Robert (Hazel) Gray of Fairbanks and James (Marg) Gray of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Daniel Patton of Valparaiso, Kenneth Patton of Columbus, Randy Patton of Centerville, OH, and Lori Love of Columbus; stepgrandchildren, Bill Gray, Missy Bowen, Sarah Usery, Janet Troup, Mark Gray, Diane Gray and Mandy Robertson; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and five stepgreat-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a stepdaughter, Freda Rose Bowen; a half-brother, Leonard Patton; sisters, Nora Muir, Beulah Perry and Gertrude Campbell; and stepgrandchildren, Zane Edwards and Jamie Gray.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Sullivan with Dale Wise officiating.
CALLING: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
A private family committal service will be at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan.
