John "J.C." Brown December 21, 1945 - March 01, 2011 The Rev. John J.C. Brown, 65, of Jewell Street, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Columbus Regional Hospital. The Rev. Brown retired from Cummins Engine Company. He was a member and pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Columbus and served as president of Beulahland Baptist Camp in Summerville, Kentucky. He managed, promoted and sang with his sons in The Brown Brothers and was a gospel music DJ for over 30 years with Hallelujah Turnpike. Most recently, he was with WXKU 92.7 Radio. He promoted southern gospel music all across the country for many years. He sang with many southern gospel groups, including appearances at the Grand Ole Opry. He founded and hosted Gospel Music Week in Columbus for more than 31 years. John enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. WYGS 91.1 Radio will be hosting a tribute radio program starting at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3. Born in Columbus Dec. 21, 1945, the Rev. Brown was the son of the Rev. Carlis and Gervis Wilson Brown. He married Glenda R. Bradshaw Dec. 28, 1963. She survives. Also surviving are children, Leslie Brown, Lisa Smith, Greg Brown, Kevin Brown, Scott Brown and Michael Brown, all of Columbus; daughters-in-law; brothers, Marvin and Roger Brown of Columbus; a sister, Clorstine Roberts of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, a grandson and one great-granddaughter. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Poynter officiating.
