Joseph V. Boyd April 29, 1927 - January 15, 2009 Joseph V. Boyd, 81, of Columbus died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mr. Boyd was drafted into the U.S. Army after graduating from high school and served in Germany until the end of World War II. He graduated from Indiana University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree and retired in 1984 after working as a corporate accountant at Cummins Engine Co. for 32 years. He also was a certified management accountant. He loved family history and spent much of his time researching his own family tree as well as his wifes. He enjoyed woodworking very much for a number of years before and after retirement, building items from recipe boxes to bookshelves and toys for his grandchildren. He also refinished a number of antique furniture pieces. He was an active member of 25th Street Church of Christ and had served two terms as a deacon. Born in Lawrence County April 29, 1927, Mr. Boyd was the son of Noble and Iva Voorhies Boyd. He married Roberta Todd Feb. 5, 1950. Survivors include his wife; sons, William (Sheryl) Boyd of Whiteland; Robert (Sharon) Boyd of Noblesville and Christopher (Dawn) Boyd of Columbus; grandchildren, Matthew Boyd, Nicholas Boyd, Patrick Boyd, Rachel Boyd, Nathan (Erika) Boyd, Anna Boyd, Katie (Kevin) Wilhelm, Drew Boyd. He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Mark Boyd; and a sister, Lucille Sears. Funeral Information VISITATION: Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. FUNERAL:The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2008 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Steve Boyd officiating, assisted by Brace Rutledge.
