Joyce A. Sutton

Joyce A. Sutton, 72, of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at her home. She was born on December 29, 1952 to Morris A. West and Verna L. (Tatem) West. Joyce's early years in Columbus were filled with the simple joys of Midwestern life, which laid the foundation for the woman she would become. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she nurtured her spiritual life and formed bonds that would last a lifetime. Professionally, Joyce was a familiar and friendly face at Marsh Supermarket, where she retired after many years of devoted service. Her colleagues were not just coworkers but became lifelong friends, with whom she shared countless memories and laughter. An avid sports enthusiast, Joyce's passion for her local teams knew no bounds. She was a fervent supporter of the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers, and the Purdue Boilermakers. Her spirit and enthusiasm for her teams were infectious, and she could often be found cheering them on, whether from the stands or her living room. Family was the cornerstone of Joyce's life, and she took immense pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren. She was their biggest fan, especially when it came to following her grandson's wrestling matches. Her presence at their events was a source of encouragement and pride, and the memories created during these times will be cherished forever. Joyce's love extended to her four-legged companions, Ciara and Gabi. Her dogs were not just pets but members of the family, and she showered them with the same affection and care she gave to her human loved ones. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive with Pastor Evan Guse officiating. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Bartholomew County Humaine Society. Survivors include her children, Holly (Greg) Tourville, Bryan (Jennifer) Fonner and extra daughter Amber (Brad) Potts; grandchildren, Hayden Fonner, Madilyn (Michael McDonald) Tourville, Logan Tourville and Carson Fonner. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Verna West; first husband, Dennis E. Fonner, he passed away March 15, 2019; second husband, Herbert Elmer Sutton, he passed away September 24, 2024; brother, Tom West. Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
