Joyce Ann Spencer, a cherished member of the Columbus community and a beacon of warmth and dedication, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 2, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on November 6, 1944, in Glasgow, Kentucky, Joyce’s early years were spent in the rolling hills of her birthplace until her family moved to Columbus, Indiana, when she was just a young girl of 11. It was in Columbus that Joyce’s roots would deepen, and her life’s journey would unfold in the most beautiful of ways. Joyce’s commitment to her community was evident through her years of service with the Bartolomew County School Corporation, where she nourished the bodies and spirits of staff and students. Her dedication to service continued at Columbus Regional Hospital, where she worked in Housekeeping, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for all who entered. Joyce’s work ethic and her ever-present smile became a comforting presence to those she encountered in her professional life. Beyond her professional endeavors, Joyce was a woman of diverse interests and talents. She was an avid participant in in mixed league bowling, where her competitive spirit and camaraderie shone brightly. Her love for the sport was matched only by her joy in sharing it with friends and fellow enthusiasts. Joyce’s passion for baking was a fit she lovingly bestowed upon her family, creating sweet memories with every batch of cookies and every carefully decorated cake that came from her kitchen. One of Joyce’s most treasured pastimes was tending to her flower garden. With a green thumb and a heart full of patience, she cultivated a vibrant tapestry of blooms that mirrored the beauty and resilience she carried within herself. Her garden was not only a sanctuary for her but also a source of joy for those who had the pleasure of witnessing its seasonal transformations. Joyce’s life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and community. Her legacy is one of kindness, a willingness to lend a hand, and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones. As the seasons change and the flowers in her garden continue to bloom, we are reminded of Joyce’s enduring spirit. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Joyce Ann Spencer’s journey on this earth may have come to a gentle close, but the impressions she left on the world around her will forever be felt.
