Lit a candle in memory of Larry Dale Boles
I don’t remember exactly when I met LD….somewhere in my 20’s. Our age difference was such that he could have been my father. We travelled to all ends of this country working on improvements to the one and only diesel. On paper I was Larry’s supervisor for a few years but I never looked at it that way. I was one of his engineers. I am blessed to have been schooled by the best mechanic, peace maker, negotiator and friend that has walked this planet. He taught me everything from how to keep my mouth shut….. to “mosquitos can’t fly in the wind”….. to “it’s more exhausting to lay around and do nothing than work 18 hour days”….to “it don’t hurt to have 5-10 payroll checks in your wallet and some spare pocket change”. Again, I don’t remember the first time I met LD BUT I can tell you I will never forget the countless lessons he walked me thru and the times we laughed till we cried. I’m watching my diet, so no bologna sandwiches for me BUT save me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the next time we meet my friend!
Sorry to hear of your loss – hugs and prayers for the family.
I used to manage Video Memories for Joe, and him and Larry would run by on their lunch. I think it was Larry who bought my dinner bell. Him and Joe always had me laughing when they left. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry for your loss!
I remember Larry as a very hard worker, honest, kind and thoughtful person.
I first met Larry in the early 1980s when we were both working on the ‘original’ N14 engine. We had a good time working through the many program challenges. I still remember the times when Cummins gave everyone a few days off without pay and Larry and I built a deck for someone to keep busy and make a few dollars. Other times we cut firewood together. Over time we went separate ways within Cummins but I still value the experience and knowledge that Larry shared with me.
He will be missed!

To Larry’s Family – I was fortunate to work with Larry for a couple of years around 1990 in the Tech Center. Larry was a hard worker and had a good sense of humor. We accomplished a lot during that time. I am sorry for your loss. Dennis O. Taylor
