May 10, 1968 ~ July 28, 2024

Larry Dale Mast, 56, of Columbus, formally of Arthur, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born May 10, 1968, in Illinois, and was adopted by Joe S. and Lois Kay Mast. He married Nicole Anderson on December 31, 2016. Larry graduated in 1986 from Arthur High School in Arthur, Illinois. He studied pre-med at Lakeland Community College in Mattoon, IL, and nursing at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. Larry was a man of many talents. During his career, he was a journeyman meat cutter, and a corporate recruiter, but his one true love was medicine. He loved trauma, and had he been able to finish med school, he wanted to be a trauma surgeon. He had been a paramedic in Decatur, IL for 10 years. Larry enjoyed many things including weightlifting, guns, having his aquariums (he loved his fish), living at the beach in North Carolina, classic cars, watching Motor Trend, and hanging out with friends, both old and new, but most of all, he loved having a family. Larry is survived by his wife, Nicole; stepchildren, Dalton Anderson, of Indianapolis, and Grace Anderson, of Columbus; brother, Gary (Elena) Mast of Mt. Sterling, KY; sister, Rhema Mast, of Chicago, IL; niece, Emily; uncle, Normal Sanders (Alice), of West Frankfort, IL; aunt, Doris Gualtney, of Carmi, IL; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe, and Lois Mast; and his uncle, David Sanders. The funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Visitation will be held before the service from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. In keeping with Larry’s wishes, cremation will occur before the service. Those wishing may make memorials to the funeral home to help with final expenses. You are invited to view his video tribute, light a virtual candle of remembrance, and leave a condolence message to the family online at jewellrittman.com.
